Labor & Delivery

2008 May 18

Around 6 am on Sunday, May 18 the contractions were about 3 minutes apart and I noticed Luke was not moving much at all. I knew I would be delivering him that day. I didn't want to. I wanted him to stay inside me for a while longer. But by 9am contractions got stronger and were 2 - 3 minutes apart. My peri had come to visit me and said that things seemed to be progressing but didn't indicate that she thought he would be born any time soon. By 1:00pm the contractions were almost unbearable and I was given medication for the pain. The contractions weren't changing my cervix. The nurse stayed in constant contact with the ob on call. As the contractions got stronger and closer together, Luke's heart rate began to drop with each contraction. He needed to be delivered soon. At 3pm I was rushed to the operating room for an emergency c-section. We had planned for a c-section but we had to get Luke out quick!
